In 1780 John Jameson opened the doors of the Jameson Distillery Bow St in Dublin. Jameson Irish Whiskey is made by mixing rich pot still whiskey from malted and unmalted barley with the finest grain whiskey, both of which are distilled three times, to ensure smoothness.

Jameson partnered with the Irish microbrewery Franciscan Well to create its first beer-aged whiskey, Jameson Caskmates. The result is really unique. Jameson Caskmates retains the characteristic smoothness of the triple distillation of Jameson Original, but maturing in stout barrels adds rich aromas of coffee, butterscotch and cocoa.

The initial aroma of freshly cut hay is complemented by a tangy fruit aroma of green apples and pears with a twist of lime peel. As expected, the mouth initially fills with the sweetness typical of Irish pot still whiskey. Then the effect of the beer barrel maturation shows up with a subtle hint of hops and cocoa beans. A little marzipan and charred oak add to the complexity.
