The exciting Black Tot Rum comes from the bottler Elixir Distillers from Great Britain, but its roots are of course in the Caribbean. As a multinational blend, it combines high-quality distillates from several countries. Distilled on the basis of molasses, these were allowed to store in oak barrels for several years, although the exact age is not disclosed.
Black Tote Rum is the result of combining the finest pot still and column distillates from Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica. They are aged for a period in American oak and ex-bourbon casks in the warm tropical climate of the Caribbean and then married in the UK by bartender Oliver Chilton. All rums used are between 3-5 years old.
Notes of tropical fruits such as pineapple, melon and mango rise into the nose. Aromas of sweet bananas and crème brûlée are also perceived. On the palate, the rum is smooth, rich with tones of butterscotch, banana cream, eucalyptus and caramel. Over time it becomes more and more intense on the draw with cinnamon, pepper, fruit notes complemented by coffee and dark chocolate. In the finish, the chocolate and coffee notes slowly fade away. Fried bananas and a hint of anise complete the taste and give the rum a great finish.
