Cardhu was founded as an illegal distillery by Helen Cumming in 1811 and licensed in 1824. It is the first distillery officially founded by a woman.
In 1811, John and Helen Cumming made their first stop at Cardow Farm on the Mannoch Hill, high above the River Spey, where spring water, naturally softened by a layer of peat, gushed out of the ground, making it the perfect place for your farm and a distillery that would stand the test of time.
This is a 16 year old Cardhu finished in Jamaican rum casks for a vibrant tropical sweetness.
Fresh notes of lemon peel, ripe mango, grapefruit, moss and spicy woods are noticeable on the nose. The palate is soft and sweet. Here you can perceive aromas of rum toffee, spicy pineapple, banana and spicy oak. The aftertaste is short and sweet, slightly spicy.
