Glenmorangie is a whiskey distillery in Tain in the Northern Highlands of Scotland and probably one of the most famous whiskey distilleries. The malt used in the production is unpeated so that no smoke aromas detract from the mild fruity character of the Glenmorangie whiskey. The distillery uses Mainly American oak barrels. First, the raw spirit is filled in (mostly first fill) bourbon barrels for 10 years. Then the whiskey is decanted into bourbon barrels, sherry barrels, port pipes or Sauternes barrels for the finish. Glenmorangie achieves a great variability in the whiskey range.

Unusually, these barrels are made from new, toasted oak; new barrels are rarely used for Scotch whiskey. This results in additional notes of dark chocolate and ginger. First matured in American whiskey barrels and then in new toasted oak barrels.

Aromas of vanilla and chocolate, a hint of orange and ginger fill the air. In terms of taste, it has a deep, spicy character with a sweet and lingering finish.
