The Scottish Speyside distillery Mortlach was founded in 1823 and is thus the first legal distillery in Speyside. It produces an incredibly complex single malt whiskey in an unusual way with a 2.8-fold distillation.
At 14 years of age, it is relatively young, but goes one step further than the flagship of the Scottish distillery.
The aging takes place in both bourbon and sherry barrels. This gives the whiskey its irresistible aromas. Influences of both types of barrel are clearly reflected in the character. Herbal layers are complemented by notes of various fruits, chocolate and raisins. Soft notes of leather and tannins float in the background and give it a long, spicy finish.
