The Scottish Speyside distillery Mortlach was founded in 1823 and is thus the first legal distillery in Speyside. It produces an incredibly complex single malt whiskey in an unusual way with a 2.8-fold distillation.
It spends its aging in sherry barrels, which gives it its irresistible softness and sweetness.
Strong notes with dark garden fruits such as currants, a light earthiness and spices rise into the nose. It's very full-bodied. On the palate you can perceive a light leathery spiciness with notes of ginger, currants, apricots and honey. Sweet and savory with a dark and full intensity. The finish is long and accompanied by sweet notes.
