Pulteney is the name of a single malt whiskey distillery located in the port town of Wick in the county of Caithness in Scotland. The unusually shaped pot stills with extra large boiling balls provide a more fragrant whiskey character. This whiskey has a lot to do with the virtues of the casks in which it ages. The distillery uses both American oak ex-bourbon and Spanish oak ex-sherry casks. With traditional lagers exposed to the invigorating sea air that rushes in from the North Sea, Old Pulteney captures the taste of the sea in every drop of its liquid gold.

The whiskey matures in ex-Bourbon casks and the "Old Pulteney Huddart" is finished in casks in which peat whiskeys were previously stored.

Intense and fruity notes of apple, caramel and vanilla rise into the nose. Light roasted aromas and smoke are also noticeable. On the palate one perceives aromas of honey, bananas and malt. Various spices, caramel, vanilla and smoke flavors are also very present here. The finish is long-lasting, salty and spicy.
