The Smokehead brand belongs to the independent bottler Ian MacLeod, based in Broxburn, Scotland. Which Islay distillery is behind the famous skull whiskey is a closely guarded secret. The finish, which lasts an unknown time, takes place in former rum barrels from the Caribbean. Everything else is kept top secret.
Intense peat and smoke aromas as well as fresh sea air and wheat cookies, with some vanilla and toffee can be perceived on the nose. This whisky is slightly smoky on the palate. Nutty aromas, some vinegar and citrus fruits can also be detected. In the finish, the sweetness blends with the smokiness, leaving a slightly spicy note.
