The Smokehead brand is owned by independent bottler Ian MacLeod, based in Broxburn, Scotland. Which Islay distillery is behind the well-known skull whiskey is a closely guarded secret. The finish, which lasts an unknown amount of time, takes place in former Caribbean rum casks. Everything else is kept top secret.
This smokehead was allowed to mature in ex-bourbon casks and oak casks.
A voluminous smoke and an intense smell of peat rise into the nose. This is followed by salty-spicy notes with aromatic lemon notes, fresh ginger and sweet plum jam. On the palate you can perceive aromas of cocoa and peat, which are accompanied by a delicate sweetness of honey and black pepper. The finish is extremely long and very peaty. Spices and notes of ripe tangerines are also added here.
