The Smokehead brand belongs to the independent bottler Ian MacLeod, based in Broxburn, Scotland. Which Islay distillery is behind the famous skull whiskey is a closely guarded secret. The finish, which lasts an unknown time, takes place in former rum barrels from the Caribbean. Everything else is kept top secret.

As a true rum rebel, he enjoys his finish in oak barrels in which Caribbean rum was previously stored. How long this Smokehead Whiskey matured is unfortunately unknown.

A strong note of peat rises to the nose, which is accompanied by notes of smoke, fresh citrus fruits and a slight note of sweet, grilled marshmallows and fried bacon. On the palate it is full-bodied and with present aromas of peat, maritime hints, spices, sweet bananas and spicy oak. The finish is long and notes of smoke and vanilla are also present here. You can also notice notes of toffee, cinnamon and nutmeg.
