Tomintoul is a whiskey distillery based in Ballindalloch, Moray, Scotland. The House of Tomintoul produces a range of very elegant whiskeys. Tomintoul Distillery was built in 1965 in the scenic Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands.
The altitude, fresh mountain air and spring water combine to create a sweet and complex single malt. High in the Cairngorms, small mountain lakes called tarns have developed as a result of glacial activity. The name Tarn derives from the Old Norse word 'tjorn', meaning pond, and some of these spring water lakes have existed for over 10,000 years, since the last Ice Age.
Many lakes are surrounded by ancient peat. It is this peat influence that creates the intense smoky, sweet and earthy character of Tomintoul Tarn.
