Metaxa is the brand name of a Greek brandy spirit made from grapes. Metaxa Grande Fine is created by blending aged grape distillates and Muscat wines from the island of Samos. The first distillery built was in Piraeus, the port of Athens. Today the company sources its grapes from the Greek island of Samos in the eastern Aegean Sea. The brand has belonged to the French spirits group Rémy Cointreau since 2000.

Metaxa Grande Fine is distilled from different grape varieties and then aged in oak barrels for several years. During this aging period, the oak gives this Greek brandy its color and character. What is special about this brandy is that after double distillation it is aged in Limousin oak barrels for at least 15 years.

This brandy has aromas of oak, dried plum, raisins and liquorice. Its taste is full and noble. It has notes of dried fruit, nutmeg, oak and honey. The finish is persistent with hints of spices and honeyed fruit.
