Calvados is an amber-colored apple brandy from Normandy, France. The name of the drink is derived from its protected designation of origin, the "Département Calvados". For the production of calvados, the fresh apple cider is fermented into cider in a few weeks, there are a total of 48 different apple varieties.
Boulard Grand Solage is a Calvados Pays d'Auge from Normandy. This bottling combines the fruity character of apple brandy with the smooth depth of cask ageing and is a good introduction to the world of Calvados.
Grand Solage is made from a blend of different Calvados Pays d'Auge expressions aged between 2 and 5 years according to the producer. The cellar master selects distillates with complementary qualities and blends them into a balanced whole.
On the nose, it shows clear apple, vanilla and fine cask notes. On the palate, Boulard Grand Solage is smooth, fruity and aromatic with ripe apple fruit, some vanilla, wood and pleasant warmth.
The finish is long and aromatically persistent. Boulard Grand Solage can be enjoyed neat, slightly warmed, over ice or as a quality base for Calvados cocktails.
