Calvados is an amber-colored apple brandy from Normandy, France. The name of the drink is derived from its protected designation of origin, the "Département Calvados". For the production of calvados, the fresh apple cider is fermented into cider in a few weeks, there are a total of 48 different apple varieties.
Papidoux XO Calvados comes from Normandy in France and combines the fruity aroma of ripe apples with the rich, spicy character of extended oak ageing. This premium apple brandy is produced from selected cider distillates and matured in oak barrels for at least six years.
During maturation, Papidoux XO develops a balanced character with intense apple aromas, delicate vanilla notes and subtle hints of wood. On the palate, it is smooth and full bodied, offering pleasant fruity sweetness and gentle spice. The long finish combines ripe apples with warm oak notes.
This Calvados is particularly enjoyable neat and slightly warmed in the hand. In France, it is traditionally served as a digestif after a meal or as a Trou Normand between courses. It also pairs beautifully with apple desserts and French crêpes.
