A tribute to pleasure! Maya Selva is often referred to as the »grande dame of the cigar world«. Rightly so! She always manages to surprise her customers, or rather »fans« with product innovations, and is one of the few women, if not the only one, to have made her mark in the cigar industry. From the very beginning, she made a name for herself with her multiple award-winning cigars, which are no longer an insider tip but have established themselves as an integral part of the range of many humidors.

In 1999, Maya Selva created the Cumpay brand. These cigars are composed exclusively of tobaccos from Nicaragua. The additional challenge was to understand the much more stout and potent tobaccos (than Flor de Selva) that grow on volcanic soil in the northwestern Jalapa Valley. This gives this Puro series its expressive notes of roasted coffee, leather and hazelnut. The wrapper is pulled from H-2000 seed in the Estelí Valley, which not only works great in the blend, but also gives the cigar an oily and maple-colored appearance. Incidentally, the name comes from the Tawahka Indians, who once placed their tobacco leaves in hollows and protected them with palm leaves. They rolled the fermented leaves into puros cumpay. In 2007, the award-winning Cumpay was the first Puro in Nicaragua to be named the best cigar of the year.
