Benromach Contrasts Air Dried Oak 2012/2023 is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from the Contrasts series by Benromach Distillery. This expression was distilled in 2012, bottled in 2023 and matured for 10 years in virgin American oak casks.
For this release, American white oak was used after drying naturally outside for two years in the US state of Missouri before being made into casks. This gives the whisky a distinctive wood influence with vanilla, toasted cereal, citrus blossom and fine oak spice.
On the nose, it shows sweet vanilla fudge, mixed citrus notes, oak and gentle smoke. On the palate, black pepper is followed by citrus fruits, toasted cereal, fresh garden mint and oak flavours.
The finish remains pleasantly smoky and finely spicy. Benromach Contrasts Air Dried Oak can be enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open the notes of vanilla, citrus, oak and smoke.
