Bunnahabhain is a malt whiskey distillery in Bunnahabhain near Port Askaig on the Isle of Islay, Scotland.
Bunnahabhain Bàgh Garbh 13 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 50% vol. The name Bàgh Garbh means rugged bay and refers to the maritime landscape around Bunnahabhain Distillery.
The whisky matured for 13 years and received a finish in Amontillado sherry casks. This combines the maritime, rather unpeated Bunnahabhain house style with nutty, fruity and spicy sherry notes.
On the nose, it shows ripe hazelnuts, figs, orange marmalade, oak, sea air, honeyed malt and floral nuances. On the palate, Bunnahabhain Bàgh Garbh is full bodied and intense with sultanas, truffle toffee, spiced orange, dark chocolate, cloves, berries, vanilla and a touch of tobacco.
The finish is spicy, maritime and pleasantly lingering with burnt walnuts, dried fruits and cinnamon. With its bold 50% vol., this whisky is well suited for sipping neat in a nosing glass or with a few drops of water.
