Cardhu was founded as an illegal distillery by Helen Cumming in 1811 and licensed in 1824. It is the first distillery officially founded by a woman.
In 1811, John and Helen Cumming made their first stop at Cardow Farm on the Mannoch Hill, high above the River Spey, where spring water, naturally softened by a layer of peat, gushed out of the ground, making it the perfect place for your farm and a distillery that would stand the test of time.
Captivating and smooth, the 12-year-old is a typical Cardhu with splendid honey notes and a refined, fruity character. Cardhu 12 Year Old offers a smooth and well-balanced taste. The attack is soft and fresh, and its lingering smoky aftertaste is sweet and dry. This Cardhu is fairly light and is a good starting point for novice whiskey lovers. In 2014, this whisky won a silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition and a gold medal at The Scotch Whisky Masters 2014.
