The Glenglassaugh Distillery was founded in 1875 by Colonel James Moir and quickly became known for producing exceptionally fine whisky. The distillery was mothballed until December 2008, when it was purchased by a group of investors. In 2013, Glenglassaugh became part of the Benriach Distillery Company, and in 2016, it was acquired by Brown-Forman, alongside The GlenDronach and Benriach Distilleries.
Our neighboring harbour village Portsoy, located just east of the distillery and shaped by a rich maritime heritage, inspired the bold, coastal flavour of this heavily peated Single Malt, matured in a unique mix of sherry, bourbon, and port casks. Thanks to a generous use of peat, this is our only intensely smoky expression, characterized by a charred coastal character. Perfect for whisky explorers seeking craft-distilled peated bottlings with high ABV and distinctive cask profiles.
Glenglassaugh Portsoy – Powerful Highland Single Malt with a Coastal Soul
Glenglassaugh Portsoy is an intense, characterful Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky that captures the wild beauty of Scotland’s northern coastline. Named after the nearby fishing village of Portsoy, this whisky reflects both the maritime environment and the traditional craftsmanship of the Glenglassaugh Distillery.
Matured in a combination of sherry, bourbon, and Portuguese port casks, it offers impressive aromatic depth. Bottled at 49.1% ABV, it delivers smoky notes, dark fruits, toffee, sea-salted breeze, and a subtle touch of spice. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, oily, and long-lasting – a true discovery for whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
