Laphroaig is a whiskey distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay. The tradition of whiskey making has been passed on by distillery managers since the first drop rolled from the still in 1815. The Kilbride Stream, hand cut peat, malted barley, cold smoking ovens, mash tuns, copper alchemy and the delicacy of oak aging.
Laphroaig 30 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky was first introduced in 2024 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Friends of Laphroaig. This special release highlights the defining influence of long maturation on the unmistakable character of the Islay distillery.
The single malt matures in a bourbon seasoned refill cask made from American oak. This brings together the smoky character of Laphroaig with sweet notes of lemon, melon and cream. A hint of salt and seaweed lingers long on the palate.
Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries that still uses a traditional malting floor today. This is where the origin of this 30 year old whisky begins: with barley malt that is gently dried and shaped by the typical smoke from the Laphroaig kilns. It is then mixed with the clear water of the Kilbride stream on Islay and distilled.
Through 30 years of maturation, the classic Laphroaig style gains additional depth and complexity. The aroma is fruity sweet with powerful top notes of citrus, followed by delicate hints of bergamot, sweet pastry and fresh thyme.
