Yamazaki is a Suntory whisky distillery in Shimamoto. The single malt whisky of the same name, Yamazaki, is produced there. The main reason for choosing the company's headquarters was the outstanding water quality of the area, which is called Minaseno.
Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a Japanese single malt whisky from Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's first and oldest malt whisky distillery. This bottling presents the layered Yamazaki character with fruit, fine spice and the distinctive influence of Japanese Mizunara oak.
The whisky is made from carefully selected malt whiskies matured for at least 12 years. According to The House of Suntory, Yamazaki whiskies contain components matured in American oak, Spanish oak and Japanese Mizunara oak. This creates a complex aromatic profile with light fruit, sweet oak, gentle spice and fine wood notes.
On the nose, it shows peach, pineapple, grapefruit, vanilla, coconut, candied orange and a hint of Japanese incense. On the palate, Yamazaki 12 Year Old is smooth, fruity and deep with honey, ripe fruit, fine oak, spices and a subtle Mizunara note.
The finish is long, rounded and pleasantly spicy with notes of sweet fruit, wood and gentle smoke. Yamazaki 12 Year Old is especially suitable for sipping neat at room temperature or with a few drops of water.
